Les Dominicains de Haute Alsace
Guebwiller
Description
The Couvent des Dominicains is owned by the Collectivité européenne d'Alsace and houses a cultural center. Labellisé Centre Culturel de Rencontre (CCR) in 2014 by Madame Aurélie Filippetti, then Minister of Culture, the venue is dedicated to music, digital arts, cabaret and botanical arts. The latter discipline contributed to the prestigious "Fleur d'Or" label awarded to the town of Guebwiller in 2024. A 14th-century Rhenish heritage site, it boasts a number of spaces for artistic programming, with a variety of aesthetics that are both hazardous and exciting. It is also a venue for artists-in-residence from all over the world. They come not only to meditate on the meaning of art in society, but also to work with the artistic and technical team of the digital creation center, a laboratory founded in 2011 that has developed cutting-edge technological skills, notably in geodesic creation. All of this encourages young people to become more aware of art through a program of artistic activities that open up the field of their own creativity. The Convent's geographical position, close to Basel (Switzerland) and Freiburg (Germany), also makes it a cross-border venue, promoting collaboration within the Rhine area. Classified as a Historic Monument, the site is open to visitors free of charge during the summer and Christmas festivities. Summer opening times : 2pm-6.30pm Wednesday to Sunday, July and August Winter opening hours : 3pm-8pm on Saturdays and Sundays in December
